Pino's Apron Gallery '09

Click here to see aprons.NOTE: there are 56 aprons, so keep scrolling. When you get to the bottom, you might have to click "older posts" to get the next batch to come up on your main page.

Well, here they are! The remaining aprons that were donated to Pino's charity pie party.

I want to thank everyone, again, for their wonderful contributions! I am so moved by the way people are getting on board with this, and having fun with it. Each year, I'll have another Call for Aprons [announced here and on the other blogs] sometime in spring. Those aprons will be sold for next year's charity/cause.

So any aprons that sell, now or whenever, always help the cause at hand. Sales made before August will help put on our '09 Hospice Celebration Day to honor Kaiser hospice workers and volunteers.

And one more thing...

Please don't feel badly if your apron did not sell yet!!! It doesn't matter, they all gave people joy when they looked at them at the pie day, and they sell through out the year. They are all special, and eventually will find their homes. The crowd this year was not as apron frenzied as last year for some reason, so many wonderful aprons didn't sell.

Pino's '09 Annual Call for Aprons

NOTE: Apron Call is over for 2009. Stay tuned next year For Pino's 2010 Apron Call.

Pino is hosting his second annual Pino Pie Party on June 21st, 2009, open to the public. We collect money through apron, art and lavender sales at the June 21st pie party so we can host a charity pie party in August [this year for hospice workers-read below].

How you can help or participate:

1]Donate an apron! This was such a hit last year, and fun for all. Aprons will hang on the fence at the event and be for sale {I usually set the price at $10-40]. All sales will help fund our upcoming charity farm event in August, "Pino Pie's Hospice Celebration Day" which will honor the wonderful work of the Kaiser Permanente hospice workers. Not only will we host the event, I also hope to donate a small donation to them - they use donations to help fund acupuncture sessions for hospice patients, as well as volunteer services.

2] You can also donate an 8" fabric square - these will hang at the Hospice Day. People will be able to write poems, quotes, notes or prayers to people they've helped hospice, or people that have hospiced their family members. Once the event is over, I'll gather them in some kind of book and present them to the Kaiser hospice group as a commemorative. OR you can just donate flower sack towels or a yard [or less] of fabric.

3] Live in Oregon? I'm collecting names of reliable people who can serve pie and keep the pie table tidy at either the June 21st event or the August 15th event.

Note: We fund our public Pino Pie Days with our own money, make our own fresh pie and serve it as our treat. People commune with the donkeys, get farm and donkey love, and enjoy the day. We ask visitors to the June 21 public Pie Day to donate $5 a carload to help fund Pino's charity pie parties [like Hospice Day].

The Donkey Dream blog will keep you up on all details as they develop, and the side bars also have pertinent information as it develops.

Thank you to all who have sent aprons in the past! Email me with questions.

SOLD OUT/Apron: The Daisy [for hippies and non-hippies]

All aprons in this section are made by Katherine Dunn of Apifera Farm. Please read description on photos carefully. Questions, just email me. We are a smoke free farm. Please note that when I make these aprons, they will vary slightly from the picture since each is handmade.

Well, what can I say, Apifera Farm understands the skills honed by old, or young, hippies, hence the fabric pocket patch 'Old hippies make good pie'.

I wanted an apron that would wrap all the way around the body, so I made the width of this ample, for those of us who like to eat pie. As a gauge, I'm a size 10+, and the red fabric totally covers my back end. I also wanted functional pockets.

The Daisy Apron [named after one of Apifera Farm's first sheep, Daisy] has one huge pocket on the muslin front, and is sewn so that you get a double pocket. Perfect for stuffing with hankies, or nails, pencils, hay twine, cookies, eggs or hippie flowers.

Currently sold out.

SOLD OUT/Apron: The Lucia

All aprons in this section are made by Katherine Dunn of Apifera Farm. Please read description on photos carefully. Questions, just email me. We are a smoke free farm. Please note that when I make these aprons, they will vary slightly from the picture since each is handmade.

I wanted to create aprons that are functional, sweet but sassy, but not overly girly. And I wanted functional pockets. This Lucia model [named after Apifera Farm's own sweet and sassy Lucia Graciella, the mini donkey] has one huge pocket on the muslin front flap, and then another pocket sits over that, so you get double the pocket. Perfect for stuffing with hankies, or nails, pencils, hay twine, cookies or eggs.

Original - "Unpicked Apple Tree"

Inspired the way too many apple trees on the roads I see as ai drive around, unpicked, nature's bounty wasted. Although i guess the worms and birds and earth benefit, so that is good. And more trees are born. But I was inspired by a story of a woman who began a network of volunteers who go around neighborhoods and pick the fruit of homeowners, then donate it to shelters. I thought a volunteer core of people who would pick up roadside apples and take them to a donation site for equine rescue facilities, or needy horse people.

"Unpicked Apple Tree". Acrylic/collage/pencil on treated pine board. 4x4x.5". Sides are painted black. Ready to hang. Protective varnish.

Sweet Dreams-Lavender Filled Pillow

I am so thrilled with the new fabrics I've been having printed at Spoonflower! This little bunny will sit on your sweet pea's bed, or yours, and bring sweet dreams.

Filled with lavender bud from our fields [pesticide free], I embellish the sides with scraps of fabric. This picture has lime green wool from Pendelton on the ends. NOTE: EACH PILLOW IS EMBELLISHED SLIGHTLY DIFFERENTLY. so no two are exactly alike.

Pillow measures 6"x8" and has about 1/2# of bud in it. Embroidered signature tag on back.

The picture of the illustration shows the true colors of the fabric's baby blue background and greens.

$19.50 includes USA S/H.

Good Morning - Lavender Filled Pillow

This design is also available on the Lavender Filled Pillow. I'll make one and post it next week. But if you want the pillow with the Good Morning design, just let me know.

I think the Good Morning and Sweet Dreams would be so adorable side by side in the nursery!

"Look at Sky" Lavender Filled Sachet

I love these! Perfect for hanging on the diaper drawer, by your bed, on a doorknob, or in the closet. Squeeze the bag and the aroma of lavender bud is released.

Lavender is said to promote calmness, and helps prevent moths. So these are perfect for the nursery or bedroom/closet. Each bag is 7" x 5.5". The illustrated fabric is ©K.Dunn and printed on Robert Kaufman cotton. It is hand sewn onto a muslin bag, and cross stitched on all fours. The ribbon is sewn into the bag so you can use it as a hanger. The back of the bag has an embroidered name tag of the artist.

NOTE: Thread color, and attached ribbon may vary due to availability.

We grow our own lavender here on the farm, and no pesticides are used. We are a smoke free farm and home. This illustration would make any nursery or room a little brighter.

SOLD _ Love Thy Neighbors

You can find many originals at my main portfolo site katherinedunn.us. I try to keep the art on this store site more farm/animal related.

This is a very old piece, from circa 1997 or so, but I would say the message is rather appropriate for today's volitile world picture. Just like worms and birds, it is sometimes difficult not to eat our neighbors, isn't it, especially those that look somewhat different than us.

Acrylic, collage and ink on newsprint. I used to paint on old newspaper inserts. Crudely torn at corners when I was done. Protective varnish. 8" x 11".

SOLD $185.50 includes USA s/h.

SOLD-"Cow Heaven"

You can find many originals at my main portfolo site katherinedunn.us. I try to keep the art on this store site more farm/animal related.

Our farm used to be a 100 acre dairy, years ago. That means there a lot of milk cows that were born and died on our land. I love cows. I really want one, but have resisted as milking is another 2x chore that adds to my diversion schedule. Plus, where you have one cow, you need two cows.

Anyway, I did this in honor of a cow I knew that died. Cow heaven does exist. It floats right above the barn here. I've seen it, but only when the perfect mix of weather conditions come together. Clover floats there too, and milk is served by bluebirds in frosty glasses to the cows.

This is an original painting of acrylic and pastel, some collage, painted on an archival print. Some of the archival print shows through into the painting. 12" image sits on archival paper with 1.5 border. Can be framed.

SOLD $355.50 includes USA s/h.

BOTH SOLD-Two friends

Both SOLD! Someone insisted on buying the cat, so now the girl really needs a home. Or I will have to make her a new cat.

There once was a girl who lived with many cats. She loved them all and liked to sew them clothes and dress them up. They drank lots of tea and ate pie.

Thus is the story of this pair of 'friends" Each has some of our farm's own lavender bud in their bellies - give their tummies a squeeze, and yummy in the tummy! Made from recycled socks - clean of course- and old apron fabrics. Hand sewn in my signature raggedy way. No straight stitches on Apifera Farm! Stuffing is poly batting, girl's hair is made of 100% wool roving and felted. The cat's tail has bells and buttons. What a pair! Each doll has sewn tag with artist's name.

These two are made to be together, and are sold as a team. Life is hard, and the cat can't live without the girl, and she can't live without the cat.

No pesticides used on our farm. Smoke free home.

SOLD 68.50/for the pair. Includes USA s/h.

SOLD - A magic cat

You can find many originals at my main portfolo site katherinedunn.us. I try to keep the art on this store site more farm/animal related.

Sort of a happy piece. One of our cats sits in a tree and his body actually grows and glows blue when he's in that tree. Either he is magical and grand because of that tree, or the tree oozes it's grandness into that cat. Not sure which.

Original painting of acrylic/pastel on archival fine art paper. Actual paintings was completed over an archival print on bottom. 12" image sits on 15" paper. One can add a matt and frame. If you want me to matt it, I can for an additional $38 [might add time onto delivery however]. The title of the piece ,"He felt much grander in a tree", is hand written and collaged onto the piece.

Protective varnish. Note: © notice is not on actual piece.

Yes, there is an elephant here

Part of the "Collection de Creatures", the one-of-a-kind felted creatures made by the artist, and sold exclusively through her studio.

The artist does not use sketches or a pattern, but rather lets each creature emerge as she works on them, much like her paintings. All clothes are hand sewn in a whimsical, childlike way. The artist is quietly gaining recognition for the expression each creature emerges with. People often remark they 'looked like they stepped out of one of her picture book illustrations."

These creatures often take more than 20-30 hours to create. Each comes with a hand embroidered name tag of the artist. And each creature has a gift tag explaining the name of the creature and a short bio.

The artist will be adding to this collection [once the photographs are complete this month]. She will also be adding chairs and stands so the dolls can be displayed easily.

If you would like to be on a waiting list for a creature, email the artist. No creature will be held unless a payment is made. Special orders of a certain type creature can be arranged [4-12 week delivery]. Special orders cost $350 and up depending on the piece. No creature will be duplicated.

I know what you're thinking - 'there aren't any elephants on Apifera Farm!"...Well, to be honest, I never saw the actual elephant, but there is folklore here in the barnyard that one exists. Someday, I will try to get it all down in words.

But for now, this is supposedly what she looks like. Ella the Elephant is a one-of-a-kind felted creature. Her charming face is felted and stuffed with fiber fill. Her body and arms/legs are made from recycled socks. Hand stitched.

Ella likes to wear short dresses but no pants. This helps her go swimming like elephants like. She weras a pink ribbon to attract bugs which, I must tell you, she eats. Her little tail is the sweetest little tail imaginable!

Note: Unlike most of my creatures, Ella doe not have lavender in her. She is 14" tall and is made so that she sits when leaned up against something.100% natural roving, dress is made of an old cotton shirt. artist's label sewn into doll.
